Title Duigan-Australia's Truffaut
Author(s)Sandra Hall
Publication Date 12-03-1991
Page Number unknown
Comments Sandra Hall compares John Duigan to Francois Truffaut largely because Danny Embling (Noah Taylor) seems to be becoming (at the time of print) equivalent to Truffaut's Antoine Doinel (Jean-Pierre Leaud). That is as far as the author takes the comparison and opts for a biographical approach, detailing Duigan's early career. An interesting point is made by the author regarding the coming-of-age (hence the death of childhood) and comments on the feature of death in 'The Year My Voice Broke' (explicitly) and 'Flirting' (implicitly).
A nice change from the ommissions common in a great many newpaper reviews of 'Flirting' or 'The Year My Voice Broke'.
Synopsis Review and synopsis of 'Flirting' with attention given to detail, both within the film and in reference to Duigan's own film career. Contains still photograph of John Duigan, Noah Taylor and Thandie Newton on location in 'Flirting'.
